MAIN STAGE CONVERSATIONS
Community Wealth Through Real Estate: Building Power, Equity, and Opportunity
Real estate has long been a cornerstone of wealth creation in America—but too often, some communities have been locked out of the opportunity to own, develop, and control the places they call home. This discussion will explore how real estate can serve as a tool for collective economic transformation rather than displacement.
Featuring developers and real estate experts leading transformative work across Memphis, the panel will highlight large-scale efforts to convert schools, shopping centers, and other sites into mixed-use residential and commercial spaces that revitalize communities and create much needed economic opportunity.

Current projects include an $84 million adaptive reuse of a former high school into a community hub with housing, a 30-unit subdivision for homeownership, and a 79-unit senior housing complex. The organization is also advancing green initiatives such as landfill diversion, regenerative agriculture, and green infrastructure.

In addition, he is also a certified speaker and life coach through John Maxwell and has several years’ experience in the real estate industry as a licensed professional.
Solopreneur to BOSS: Building Teams, Creating Jobs, & Scaling Operations
The leap from solopreneur to employer is a big deal. With over 40,000 Black-owned businesses in Memphis but fewer than 1,000 employer firms, helping business owners scale and create jobs is one way to close the wealth gap.
This panel spotlights four entrepreneurs who have done just that — growing from one-person operations into employers building teams and creating opportunities. Some lead part-time teams; others manage staff across multiple states. Their journeys offer practical insights into the mindset shifts, systems, and investments that support sustainable growth.
Moderated by Dr. Andre Perry, this discussion explores how job creation at the local level can drive broader economic change — from reducing unemployment to circulating dollars locally and improving families’ quality of life.
