The Memphis & Shelby County Film and Television Commission is the City’s and County’s official economic development agency for film, tv, and media productions. Support is given through, researching possible filming locations, identifying production resources, and further developing Memphis/Shelby County as a production hub.

The Memphis & Shelby County Film and Television Commission is the official City and County economic development agency for film, tv, and media productions. Established in 1985 through a joint City and County Resolution, the organization focuses on attracting and supporting film, television, commercial, and digital media productions throughout the region. Its mission is to promote Memphis as a premier production destination, while generating economic impact through local hiring, tourism, vendor partnerships, and production spending.

The Commission services are offered to funded projects of all sizes. Services include, location scouting, logistical coordination, government liaison support, production permitting assistance and connections to local crew, talent, vendors, and production resources. The organization also helps productions navigate City, County, and State requirements, including filming on public property, traffic coordination, drone filming approvals, and insurance documentation.

Memphis has become nationally recognized as a film-friendly city, offering diverse urban, suburban, rural, and historic filming locations within a compact geographic area. Through the Commission’s support, productions gain access to a wide variety of settings, including downtown cityscapes, historic neighborhoods, riverfront locations, industrial sites, music venues, and natural landscapes. The area is also known for its experienced production crews, diverse acting talent, and strong music culture. The Commission has played a significant role in supporting numerous independent films, television productions, documentaries, commercials, and studio projects filmed throughout Memphis and Shelby County. In addition to production assistance, the organization works to strengthen the local film industry by promoting workforce opportunities, supporting emerging filmmakers, and enhancing Memphis’ visibility within the entertainment industry.

The Commission is led by a seasoned chairwoman long-respected throughout the community, two experienced film commissioners and an internationally-known music industry expert. It is supported by a mayoral-appointed advisory board representing multiple industries. In its 41st year, The Memphis & Shelby County Film and Television Commission continues to serve as a vital resource for productions seeking professional support, unique filming locations, and access to Memphis’ rich cultural and creative landscape.
