The 2026 Building Wealth in Our Community Symposium is the Black Chamber of Memphis' signature business mobility experience, convening entrepreneurs, investors, corporate leaders, public-sector partners, and business advisors for a day of practical strategies, meaningful connections, and actionable insights that help businesses access capital, secure contracts, leverage innovation, and accelerate growth.
Guided by this year's theme, Building Entrepreneur City: Access. Investment. Mobility., the Symposium is designed to help growth-ready businesses move from opportunity to execution. Through engaging discussions, strategic networking, and expert guidance, participants will gain greater access to capital, procurement opportunities, technology, partnerships, and the resources needed to grow and compete.
The day concludes with AIM After Hours, an extended networking experience on site where attendees can continue building relationships and exploring new opportunities in a more relaxed setting.

A high-level economic outlook designed to translate today’s market conditions into practical business strategy. This session will break down key indicators—including interest rates, lending trends, consumer behavior, and sector shifts—and what they mean for growth, pricing, hiring, and capital decisions. Attendees will leave with clear insights to navigate uncertainty and position their businesses for stability and expansion.
Procurement Playbook: Building Capacity to Secure & Deliver Major Contracts
A tactical deep dive into positioning your business for contracts with corporations and public agencies. This session focuses on procurement pipelines, certification strategy, compliance preparation, and the internal systems required to successfully deliver at scale. Attendees will gain clarity on how to move from opportunity awareness to contract execution with confidence.
The Capital Stack: Aligning Capital with Business Strategy
A strategic examination of how successful companies leverage grants, debt financing, equity investments, contracts, and alternative funding tools to support business objectives at every stage of growth. Entrepreneurs will be encouraged to move beyond constantly chasing the next funding opportunity and toward developing a capital strategy aligned with their long-term business goals.

Building Capacity To Secure and Deliver Major Contracts

Brent Hooks
Brent Hooks is a finance and operations executive who builds the systems that turn opportunity into delivered projects. As Regional Vice President of Cornerstone Engineering Inc., he leads multi-market growth across the Southeast, supporting the pursuit and execution of infrastructure and development projects that shape how cities function.
His experience combines financial discipline with operational scale. He has managed capital portfolios exceeding $1 billion, built forecasting and control systems for a multistate business, and led complex projects from award through delivery. Brent holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Memphis and an MBA from Vanderbilt University. He is also a certified Project Management Professional and PMI Senior Construction Professional.
A Memphis native from a family of civic-minded entrepreneurs and educators, Brent serves on the Downtown Memphis Commission and the ACEC West Tennessee Chapter board. He brings a practical understanding of what it takes to secure, resource, and successfully deliver major contracts.

Kimberly Henry
Kimberly Henry is the Director of GO-BID at the Tennessee Department of General Services, where she leads the State’s supplier diversity and small business program. She works to expand opportunities for Tennessee businesses to compete for State contracts while strengthening partnerships with agencies, vendors, and community organizations across the State.
With more than 25 years of State government experience, Henry has served in leadership roles at both the Department of General Services and the Department of Human Services. Her career has focused on organizational development, employee engagement, and the development of collaborative programs that deliver meaningful results. In 2022, she received the Governor’s Excellence in Service Award for her outstanding contributions to DGS.
Henry holds degrees from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and the University of Tennessee and is a Certified Public Manager and graduate of several Tennessee leadership programs.

Cedric Hamilton
Cedric Hamilton serves as the Business Services Manager for the City of Memphis Government, where he leads initiatives focused on sourcing, procurement, supplier engagement, and business development. With a commitment to transparency, efficiency, and strategic partnerships, Cedric works to connect businesses with government opportunities while strengthening the City’s supplier network. He is passionate about fostering economic growth, supporting local businesses, and creating procurement initiatives that deliver value to both the City of Memphis and the community it serves.
Outside of his professional responsibilities, Cedric has been married to his wife, Heidi Hamilton, for 21 years. Together, they are the proud parents of three children—two daughters and one son. They value faith, family, and service, reflecting the same dedication and commitment that Cedric brings to both his personal life and his work in the Memphis community.

Kenneth Johnson
Kenneth Johnson received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, AR. He began his career with the City of West Memphis in 1995, as the Housing Program Manager. He served in this capacity for over 20 years, before being promoted to Purchasing Director in 2016.
Over the last 10 years, Kenneth has made many improvements by ensuring compliance with local, state and federal laws as it relates to the city’s purchasing practices. Kenneth provides an ingoing supply of quality goods and services to all city offices and is committed to maximizing the taxpayers' dollar while maintaining the highest standards of ethics, integrity, public trust and transparency.
In 2019, Kenneth was very influential in making changes to our purchasing card & travel policy. His recommendation made those policies more understandable. He also oversees the City’s Courtesy Vehicle Program. This program allows city employees to utilize the vehicle for training and city business purposes. This just added value to his work ethic. It’s no wonder he was named 2020 Employee of the Year for the City of West Memphis.
Mr. Johnson is a proud 2023 Graduate of Leadership Arkansas Class 17. He is also a 2017 Graduate of the Crittenden County Leadership Class. In addition, he has served as Chairman of the Board of Trustee’s at Marion COGIC, and Vice President of Boy’s and Girls Club of America. He is also a past Board member of the Good Neighbor Love Center and the East Arkansas Family Health Center.
Kenneth is an asset to the entire Community of West Memphis. He is a giver and a friend to all. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling with his wife of 29 years, Cassandra and his 2 lovely daughters Makenzie and Mia. He also loves spending time with his family and fishing.

Khalif Johnson
Khalif Johnson, Procurement Manager for Turner Construction Company's Memphis office, is a passionate advocate for expanding opportunities for local businesses and strengthening the region's construction industry. Since 2016, he has led the local Turner School of Construction Management program, helping more than 500 graduates develop the knowledge, relationships, and operational capacity needed to compete for major projects. Recognized as Advocate of the Year at The Mid-South Business Continuum's 2025 Robert R. Church Awards, Khalif is committed to creating lasting partnerships that strengthen businesses, projects, and the communities they serve.
As Procurement Manager, Khalif leads procurement strategy for Turner's Memphis office, helping transform project opportunities into successful partnerships. He works with project teams, trade partners, and suppliers to develop procurement strategies that emphasize early engagement, compliance, transparency, and long-term relationship building. By aligning procurement planning with project goals, negotiating strategic agreements, and supporting a diverse network of qualified trade partners, Khalif helps ensure projects are delivered efficiently while expanding opportunities for local businesses.

LaJuanna Jones-Sulton
LaJuanna Jones-Sulton, M.S., is a procurement executive with more than 25 years of experience leading strategic sourcing, contract management, supply chain operations, and organizational transformation across government, education, manufacturing, and corporate sectors. As Procurement Manager for the City of Memphis, she oversees competitive procurement initiatives, leads high-performing teams, and develops sourcing strategies that promote compliance, operational excellence, and fiscal responsibility.
Throughout her career, she has managed multimillion-dollar procurement portfolios, directed complex RFPs, RFQs, and ITBs, implemented eProcurement technologies, and developed performance metrics that improve transparency and accountability. She is recognized for strengthening supplier partnerships, advancing supplier diversity, mentoring procurement professionals, and driving continuous improvement.
LaJuanna completed Project Management Professional (PMP) training through the Project Management Institute (PMI) and holds three master's degrees in Operations Management, Teaching, and School Counseling. She’s passionate about procurement innovation, leadership development, and building high-performing procurement organizations that deliver measurable value to the communities they serve.

Danielle McGee Gibson
Danielle McGee Gibson is a powerhouse at the intersection of entrepreneurship, equity, and economic justice. She is the founder of Black Business Boom and Executive Director of Boomin University.
Danielle is where strategy meets soul—a builder of ecosystems, and champion for Black entrepreneurs. She doesn’t just dream of change—she blueprints it, funds it, launches it, and makes it sustainable.
With over 15 years of experience and an MBA from Saint Xavier University, Danielle has built innovative platforms that equip small businesses with the tools, coaching, and capital needed to thrive. Under her leadership, Black Business Boom has grown into Boomin University, a national initiative that has supported hundreds of small businesses through training, loan readiness, and mentorship.
Danielle’s impact has been recognized with numerous honors, including the 2024 Dealmakers of the Year Award, the Power Moves Award in Entrepreneurship, and recognition from the National Coalition of Black Women and Women Who Rock Nashville.
Her journey from bankruptcy to ecosystem builder is powered by belief—in herself, in her community, and in what’s possible when we invest in people over systems and strategy over luck. A certified digital marketer and former healthcare executive, Danielle has led countless workshops, conferences, and coaching sessions helping entrepreneurs build sustainable, scalable businesses.
Originally from Chicago and now based in Nashville since 2016, Danielle is also an avid traveler, devoted wife, and lover of pets, family, and big, world-changing ideas.

Rashawn Ray
Rashawn Ray, PhD is Vice President and Executive Director of the AIR Opportunity Fund, a $225 million, 10-year initiative dedicated to addressing disparities in education, workforce development, public safety, and community health through evidence-informed, community-driven solutions. He is also a professor at the University of Maryland and a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, where his research focuses on racial and social inequities, criminal justice reform, health policy, and wealth disparities. As founding executive director of the Lab for Applied Social Science Research (LASSR), Dr. Ray developed a virtual reality training program for law enforcement and led implicit bias training for thousands of professionals across sectors. A prolific scholar, he has authored three books and more than 50 academic publications. Dr. Ray regularly advises policymakers, testifies before legislative bodies, and serves on several national advisory boards. Through his research, public engagement, and media commentary, he helps shape conversations and policies on equity, public safety, and social change.

Jarlecia Jones
Jarlecia Jones serves as Vice President of Lending for West Tennessee at Pathway Lending, where she helps entrepreneurs access the capital, resources, and guidance needed to grow successful businesses. A native Memphian, her passion for supporting small business owners is deeply rooted in her upbringing in a family of entrepreneurs, where she learned firsthand the challenges and rewards of business ownership. Since joining Pathway in 2019, she has advanced through several leadership roles while helping businesses across industries secure financing, create jobs, and strengthen communities throughout West Tennessee. With a background in accounting, Jarlecia empowers entrepreneurs to better understand their finances and make informed decisions that support long-term growth. A proud alumna of Leadership Tennessee NEXT, she is committed to expanding economic opportunity and helping business owners turn their vision into lasting success.
